Un tempo cercare i maestri significava entrare nei loro laboratori. Ed entrarvi non significava semplicemente acquisire un mestiere, ma adottare una mentalità: assorbire la finezza del maestro, rielaborarla e farla propria. Questo passaggio ha collegato le generazioni all’interno di un tempo e di uno spazio definiti. La saggezza, nel pensiero e nella forma, deve essere ascoltata, trasmessa e rivitalizzata. Il progetto “Maestri” di Paolo Ferraina nasce dal desiderio delle giovani generazioni di conoscenza e tutoraggio. Desiderio ostacolato da un mondo in rapida evoluzione e dall’assenza di spazi fisici che favoriscano lo scambio intergenerazionale. Chi sono i Maestri in questa fase? Sono figure eminenti in diversi campi, che elevano i loro mestieri ad Arte. Paolo Ferraina ha studiato, intervistato e catturato meticolosamente queste personalità in ritratti – alcuni intimi, altri contestuali – che rivelano l’umano al di là della loro fama, come nell’approccio di Annie Leibovitz. Utilizzando una equilibrata tavolozza di bianco e nero, l’autore si immerge nei soggetti, catturandone gesti, sguardi e momenti di spontaneità, oltre i vincoli dell’obiettivo. Il risultato è un profondo scambio di emozioni: una testimonianza duratura di esperienze vissute che trasmettono autenticamente l’essenza appassionata di questi notevoli individui.

Paolo Ferraina’s project “Maestri” stems from the desire of younger generations for knowledge and mentorship. A desire hindered by a rapidly changing world and the absence of physical spaces that foster intergenerational exchange. Who are the Maestri in this phase? They are eminent figures in various fields, who elevate their crafts to Art. Paolo Ferraina has studied, interviewed, and meticulously captured these personalities in portraits – some intimate, others contextual – that reveal the human beyond their fame, like in Annie Leibovitz’s approach. Using a balanced palette of black and white, the author immerses himself in the subjects, capturing their gestures, gazes, and moments of spontaneity, beyond the constraints of the lens. The result is a profound exchange of emotions: a lasting testimony of lived experiences that authentically convey the passionate essence of these remarkable individuals.

Paolo Ferraina cresce in una famiglia di fotografi, osservando meticolosamente il lavoro dei nonni paterni e del padre fotografo glamour.
Lui, terza generazione, coltiva la passione per la fotografia e si laurea all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Catanzaro. Predilige i campi della fotografia e videografia documentaristica e sociale, e ama raccontare con il suo lavoro in particolar modo la vita degli artisti.
Paolo Ferraina grew up in a family of photographers, meticulously observing the work of his paternal grandparents and his father, a glamour photographer. As the third generation, he nurtures a passion for photography
and graduates from the Academy of Fine Arts in Catanzaro. He focuses primarily on documentary and social photography and videography, and especially loves to narrate the lives of artists through his work.
